Community Health Worker (Contract Worker)
Job Title: Community Health Worker
Organization: Marlene's Kaleidoscope Lupus Organization
Location: Kansas City, KS, and Kansas City, MO
Job Type: Full-time,
Pay: $17.00 - $20.00 per hour
Expected Hours: 30 – 40 per week
Schedule:
Day shift
Evenings as needed
Weekends as needed

Job Description:
The Community Health Worker (CHW) at Marlene's Kaleidoscope Lupus Organization is responsible for increasing education and awareness about lupus, particularly focusing on gaps in the current community and increasing health equity efforts. The CHW will collaborate extensively with numerous partners, including community-based organizations (CBOs), local school districts, health community groups/taskforces, health coalitions, hospitals, health departments, faith-based organizations, and churches to coordinate and conduct community outreach events and program implementation/growth.
Key Roles and Responsibilities:
Participate in community events, local health coalitions, statewide meetings, and community action groups.
Serving as a Marlene's Kaleidoscope member to continue implementing and strengthening community-driven strategies to identify vaccine gaps and opportunities.
Coordinate and communicate with the Executive Director & Founder / CEO of Marlene's Kaleidoscope; participate in both virtual and in-person meetings as assigned within the greater Kansas City area.
Increase language access by using cultural competencies to effectively communicate to diverse audiences in both urban and rural settings.
Build and strengthen awareness and education opportunities through community outreach and events, and participant recruitment.
Work closely with churches and faith-based organizations to promote the critical importance of immunizations across the entire lifespan.
Participate in conferences and meetings with national, state, and local partners serving as vaccine advocates and connectors to available immunization resources and information.
Collaborate and organize lifespan vaccination events with local schools, employers, and the community.
Foster and solidify local relationships with organizations, clinics, and employers that serve the minority population.
Perform approximately 70% of position functions out in the communities and serve the remainder 30% of time working at the host-site organization that has been identified.
Provide social support and informal counseling, advocate for individuals and community health needs, and provide services such as basic first aid, blood pressure screenings, and simple wound care.
Required Qualifications:
High school diploma, GED, or relevant experience working in community-based projects.
Written and oral fluency in English and Spanish (preferred but not required) At least two years of experience working as a community health worker or health navigator.
Ability to be independent and self-driven.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Highly organized with strong attention to detail.
Experience working with underserved and diverse populations in community settings.
Prior experience working with large and diverse teams to accomplish goals.
Ability to multi-task and work in a self-directed manner.
Working knowledge of office software applications such as Microsoft and Google and spreadsheets.
Flexibility to work some nights and weekends. Hours can be flexed within the same week.
One year of health education.
Completion of Community Health Worker training (preferred but not required).
Must have a valid driver's license and safe driving record.
Basic computer skills required,
Understanding of the community served and community connectedness.
Good communication skills, such as listening well and using language appropriately.
Ability and willingness to provide patients with emotional support, encouragement, and motivation.
